The third off eight children in the family of Boutros Haddad and Shams Haddad, he was born in Ghazir on the outskirts of Beirut on 1 February 1875. He was baptised in the Maronite church in Ghazir on 21 February 1875 and received the name Khalil. At the age of sixteen, after a high school education in Beirut, he emigrated to Alexandria where he was touched by the death of a Capuchin Friar. In the novitiate he received the name Jacques. A giant in charity recognised by both religious and civil authorities Abuna Jacques never had any other purpose in life except “to love God and to love man, the image of the Crucified.” He died on 26 June 1954, holding close the crucifix. Abuna Yaaqub El-Haddad. He was beatified on 22 June 2008.
